9 action heroes only 80s born Ghanaians can relate to

Growing up Ghanaian is not an easy thing, especially with hyper-religious and strict parents who leave no room for errors.

Most people would say they don't miss their childhood years, but every true 80s born (or early 90s born) would occasionally long for the iconic American/British/Asian action movie heroes that defined our growing up years.

We lived on these action heroes so much we mimicked every move they made and rated a movie ‘thumbs up’ when their names popped up on the screen for the introductory cast.

Here are a few of our favorite action heroes, as per an 80s child's choice

1. Jean Claude Van Damme

His name and constant role as the protagonist earned every other hero the name "Van Damme".

2. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Even before his terminator days, Arnold Schwarzenegger was a favorite, despite the fact that most of us could never fully spell his name, and some still can't.

3. Sylvester Stallone
Whether as Rocky or Rambo, Stallone used to wow every Ghanaian child with his rather impressive stunts.

4. Chuck Norris

Chuck is not just iconic, he was like an elusive character no one could get enough of  us could never fully spell his name, and some still can't.

5. Steven Seagal

There was (and, still is) something captivating about Seagal's height and almost non-belligerent nature.

6. Jackie Chan
Who didn't love Jackie Chan? This fella inspired legendary tall-tales about the origin of karate and martial arts. Whew!

7. Mel Gibson
That Mad Max guy. Tbh, we were a bit sad when we realized he wasn't actually MAD.

8. John Travolta
Though Travolta lacks the sophistication and dynamic pacing of other stars on this list, the icon sure did hold his one.

9. Al Pacino
The Godfather franchise made Al just as much as Al made the Godfather franchise
